In Sorcerer's Code, Edar Moncrief came face-to-face with the spectre of death in the form of the Arbiter, D'Arden Tal-and barely escaped with his life.
In Sorcerer's Crime, Moncrief stumbled headfirst into the problems of a tiny village in the middle of nowhere, and uncovered a horrifying evil lurking there.
Now, Moncrief believes he has found respite in Selvaria, the City of Sorcerers... that is, until he's murdered unceremoniously in an alley. Desperate to save his own life, he turns to the only thing which can hold back the tide of darkness-the Arbiter's heartblade.
For the hapless sorcerer, solving his own murder is just the tip of an iceberg of lies, politics, deceit and backstabbing as war brews between the shadowy Circle of Thorns and Selvaria's aristocracy. Does Moncrief have the guts to stop it before the streets run red with blood? Can he handle the sudden changes sweeping over him, thanks to the heartblade?
It just gets worse and worse...
SORCERER'S BLOOD is the third installment in the best-selling ELEMENTS OF SORCERY mini-series. If you enjoy fantasy with a bleeding edge of humor, pick up the ELEMENTS OF SORCERY and discover what lengths a sorcerer will go to just to preserve his own life...
Sorcerer Blood The Elements of Sorcery Book 3 eBook Christopher Kellen
I'm a bit conflicted with this review. On the one hand, this story (I can't bring myself to call it a book) has Kellen's usual solid writing and good characterization. I really enjoyed the two Arbiter Codex books and am always happy to see another entry in that world. But on the other hand I'm getting really tired of the short, short stories that Kellen seems to prefer. When you look at the length of the story for the price, this novella (and even calling it a novella is a stretch) is absurdly expensive. It feels like a couple of chapters from a regular book, but priced at $1.99 I was left wondering where's the beef?
Although I really like the main character, Edar, I'm not enough of a short story fan to continue buying the short stories in this series. If the author collects the stories into a novel, or writes more actual novels in the universe, I would be thrilled to read those. But five, six, seven, eight, short stories for $1.99? Where does it end? Sorry, I just realized that following this trail of breadcrumbs is getting too expensive.

Sorcerer Blood The Elements of Sorcery Book 3 eBook Christopher Kellen Reviews
I'm not sure about even calling this a novella. Did I mention it's short? Good, but, you know, surprisingly lacking in length. Although, really all of Mr. Kellen's works are.
Really like these books, but they are way to short!
Please write a whole book and I'll like it that much more!
Well, if you've made it this far you know exactly what to expect in the third tale of the series that I have dubbed Snark & Sorcery.
Edar Moncrief, Arbiter impersonator, part-time magician and all-round meddlesome man has started to owe a number of favours to some very dangerous people.
Unfortunately for him, he has just died. Sucks to be him.
Only he's not actually dead, otherwise this would be a very short tale indeed. Instead he gets the joy of investigating into his own 'death'.
He runs into a number of folk on the way, most of them powerful individuals who either require his services or have employed him to do something he hasn't done yet. On account of being dead.
The problem is, Edar has much more to contend with than being dead, or owing favours.
Kellen packs the action thick and fast into this short story, blasting us through a series of encounters featuring our protagonist coming to terms with all the changes that have beset him. The quality hasn't dipped for this third tale, and once again the players are introduced in a tasteful fashion that doesn't feel shoe-horned.
There isn't much more that need be said. If you've made it this far, this is another good reason to keep going. So what are you waiting for? Keep going!
Love the books, wish they were long and more emersive tho. By the time you come to know and like the characters the story is over.
Once again the main character's belief that he is smarter than everyone else gets him into trouble. However, this is another step towards his development into a somewhat decent person. He also gets to further develop his courage.
I have enjoyed the series so far and will venture on to the next book! This sorcerer is is fantastic!
Another interesting and fun short story/novella about Edar the sorcerer. In each of the tales, he grows stronger and more complex and it's been excellent watching his development as a character.
